Trautonium

Created on 21 Oct 2021

create a tactile keyboard-like instrument based on the design for a trautonium

The trautonium traditionally consists of a resistive wire suspended above a conductive plate. When a user presses the wire down, making contact with the plate, it closes the circuit at that point and current is allowed to flow through the wire. Depending on the position the user chooses, the circuit has a different resistance. This variable resistance can be used to determine the frequency of the sound output.

The instrument makes about an octave of noise. We can play Hot Cross Buns. - Base needs to be sanded. - Springs need to be mounted and hardware made permanent. - Low pass and high pass filters need to be added to the circuit. - Log scaling needs to be added to code.
