Just Heat It

Dance to keep your microwave working

The goal of this project is to hack together a microwave that requires body movement to operate. We aim to develop a kinect application that suggests dance moves and track whether the user is dancing, much like a Just Dance xbox game. We are looking into hacking the touchpad of a microwave’s start/stop/pause button. In the case that we are unsuccessful at hacking the touchpad, we will use a powertail to “unplug” the microwave, when the user does not dance as instructed. We wish to use a xbox kinect and the kinect SDK on visual studios. The application will run on a computer that is attached to the kinect. The powertail is connected to an arduino, which is connected to the computer (in a separate USB port from the kinect). The arduino will receive a serial signal from the kinect program to switch off power through the powertail, which in turn will “unplug” the microwave. For the code, we will start with the Shapes demo and work from there using C# and Visual Studios. This is an [demo of the Shapes game](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4RiA1Gk36Y) Some reach-goals: * have the kinect application play music when expecting the user to dance. * Customize the song and dance moves to the duration of the microwave use. i.e. microwaving something for 20 seconds will have a different song/dance than microwaving something for 2 minutes.
